Perhaps it would be kinder to her to find someone who could provide her with proper husbandry if you already know that your home presents challenges?
How about using a UTH on a thermostat for the warm end, and the lamp for the cool end?
I also suspect that your hides are not identical, if she's chosing one over the other.
The thermometer that Deborah recommended would definitely be a good step, I think you'll be surprised just how inaccurate your stick on thermometers are.
She's a trouble eater for you, because her husbandry requirements are not being met. Keep them warm (92-94 on the warm side, 82-84 on the cool side)and well hydrated and in a secure enough enclosure (secure as in provides security, like a tub) and they'll eat, provided they don't have some health issue going on like parasites.
