I'm definitely not smarter than anyone :)

Thermostat probes and tape are the two things that don't belong inside an enclosure. Your probe should be directly on your heat source.

ummmm, how would thermostat probes being outside the tank help any? cause then the thermostat would have the UTH going full blast trying to get the probe to read 95 degrees when it never will, cause my room will never ever be 95 degrees. Even on this care sheet the probe is inside the tank and people use this guide like the snake bible or something:

EDIT: New post above of you saying to put it directly on the heat source makes more sense. But people run probes into their tanks all the time for their thermometers, why wouldnt you do this for a thermostat?

You put it on the UTH, so the thermostat knows how hot the UTH is and when to stop.

The reason you don't want a thermostat probe inside the tank is if it gets dislodged, the temps will shoot up and possibly kill your snake. If you put it on the heat tape directly, you calibrate the temps of the heat tape to whatever temp it takes to get 92-94 on the bottom of your enclosure.
