Cool thats kinda what i was thinking. So belly heat at 84 is as good as the air being 84?

thats what i was thinking. the surface temp would be 92-94 on one side and 80-82 on the other side but what about the ambient temp??? it will still be 65 or whatever the room gets to....

the surface temps may be fine but dont you have to get the ambient temps up???

Imho, belly heat by itself does not make up for inadequate ambient temps. Anything below a round 80 degrees could lead to a potential RI and feeding issues imo. Try experimenting with larger or multiple heaters to get the temps to where you want them to be. Good luck.

Re: Solution for keeping snakes in my cold basement- INSULATION !
i noticed your tubs are against a cold cement wall, rigid foan insulation will help.also insulation on your tub covers will help, refletix (bubble wrap with foil on both sides) works wonders at reflecting heat.if that doesn't help you could put up temporay walls (clear plastic) with the heater inside,of coarse keeping the heater away from anything.ceiling insulation will keep your upstairs temps more constant.

i find heat tape works best when making up the last 5-15 degrees of desired temps instead of trying to make a warm spot in a cold area.have fun !

Well the temp in my basement never goes below 65 degrees for sure and with 11 inch flex watt on one side at 94 and 11 inches on the other side set at like 85 wouldent that bring the air temp up to about 85 inside the container? EVen in the summer my basement never goes above 70-75 degrees or so.

i dont think that flexwatt properly brings up the ambient temperature in an enclosure...

i may be wrong but in the tubs that im currently housing bps in uses 3" flexwatt to create a hot spot but the ambient temperature in the tub is whatever the room temperature is. i think you need to heat your room to achieve the proper ambient temp in the enclosure.

anymore experienced flexwatt users with some comments???

I would put up some permanent walls and make a snake room!

Did you try using the space heater to get the room temperature to ~80ºF? That would help.
