So if the snakes were in a room with a window, and could get light that way, would it be best to get one of those ceramic heating...um, things (they aren't bulbs I don't guess) The ones that just give off heat and not light?

Ceramic Heat Emitters....and yes...if you've got any other source for ambient light in the room, you don't need any bulbs over the tank. A CHE works well for supplemental heat.

Ah, thanks! hehe Oh, and I'm getting a slightly older heat lamp... the CHEs just screw in like the blubs do, right? Do I need to worry about killing the lame with a CHE that is too strong?

Make sure the part the CHE screws into is ceramic also as they tend to MELT normal light sockets. It happened to me once

Oh, that would be bad...but good at the same time... My mom is sending me a heat lamp that she found, but has no use for, but I have to wait to get it before I can get my snake! I don't want to wait, but I couldn't justify buying a new lamp just b/c I'm impacient (sp?) But if the old lamp won't work...I may be able to get my snake sooner than I thought!! :w00t:
