Re: Tank Set-ups
All the 'natural' enclosures that I see have an amazon jungle-theme....that really does not suit a ball python.....i have never seen anyone setup a ball python in an enclosure resembling their natural environment.... so I wanted to throw that idea out there just incase someone was interested.
I have a 'natural' ball python enclosure in the works....got the plans drawn up.....it takes a fair amount of research to try to reproduce nature, so I don't have all the details concerning how the environment will be setup....and I can't bring myself to get away from the benefits that LAM reptile keeping offers.....so hopefully what I am designing can put the two methods together with some success.
As far as tank keeping is concerned....I have seen some nice setups especially with dart frogs and geckos......but with snakes.....as great as the insides are setup, I can not bring myself to appreciate them because they just look odd to me......when I see an aquarium, I usually expect fish....not snakes ;)
It is great to see someone varying from the 'norm' of keeping snakes in tubs though :D

Mainly, I don't want to see the wires, plastics, or ceramic bowls anymore. While I can't reproduce a rodent burrow (well..I guess I COULD but omg what a pain...but how cool if it was like an antfarm tunnel system...being able to see him underground?!), I'm going to use the 'rock' like hides and matching bowls.

I'm going to have 2 of each, warm and cool sides.
Does anyone else use these hides? I'm hoping the 'large' has a snugger/tighter fit than the large black plastic boxes that I currently have offers. (http://www.reptilesupply.com/product...roducts_id=836)
I'm also including some basic fake plants, and chunky vine pieces for rubbing, removing a 1/2 log hide.

Other than that they are fine......just make sure you get the larger one....the opening was pretty small if I remember correct.

Hmm...underground tunnel system would be awesome! Kinda hard to pull em out for handling though :)

Re: Tank Set-ups
You might wanna read a book called The Art of Keeping Snakes by Philippe de Vosjoli. It has information on setting up a vivarium type setting for snake and then in the back a small section on different snakes and suggested vivarium design. It's a very interesting book if your into things like that (which I am), although I confess I do use the LAM method with my corn tanks, which I'd like to change...

I have a design for one, lol. If you have a front glass panel that drops downwards, so you can reach into the tunnel from the front of it, you could take 'em out. Lemme see if I can find my drawing.

Warning: I can't draw for ships.

The top left corner is a side view. The bigger drawing is from the front. I don't know how the tunnels would be made, how the thing would be heated. Or any of that. Maybe the space between the tunnels is aspen, sterile dirt, etc. The is held in place with a piece of plexiglass cut to the outline of a tunnel. It's hard to explain............. Oh and the 'tree' is a decoration I found at a local pet store that is used a water dripper, I planned this out for hatchling corns. It can be substuted with a piece of wood or something.
LOL I know i am kinda dorky...but I've always wanted to design and build vivs./terr. for animals. Reptiles specifically.

Re: Glass Tank Set-ups
Why did you make a new thread when you already have this one?
