Eh; mice are hard to get rid of. I would imagine that they can't use any kind of chemical rat/mouse poison, since it could harm the pets they're selling. I have the same problem in my own home; we have a mouse (and sometimes, barn rat!) problem. Our cat does take care of the ones in the house mostly; the house was littered with mouse poop until we got him no matter how often I cleaned/swept; now we rarely see them in the house, though they're all over in the barn. I don't believe in having outdoor cats, so they can stay there, but we keep all of our grain in latched, chewproof containers..
I really hope though, that they don't have it where the wild mice/rats can come into contact with the ones they sell.. now this would frighten me. The cat idea sounds like a nice fix but could deter allergic customers; then again, they have cats for adoption there, and people still shop there.. I guess they couldn't even mouse-proof their feeds, as they are sold in chewable bags..

    2 words....haunta virus

its definately unsanitary since all the mice/rats do is eat and poop. the dry droppings can carry some pretty hefty ilness-bearing organizisms.

IMHO all stores should be held to a pretty high standard of getting rid of resident pests. however when you find out that the grocery store you go to HAS cockroaches, it kind of turns your stomach. so if they cant get the roaches out of a food store, there is no way they can eliminate rats/mice from a pet store. not completely anyway. just my 2 cents
