Setting up flights, and the way flights are routed when dealing with cargo, is the extreme opposite of passenger flights ;) you should try it sometime, it's a real treat LOL I really do wish it was as simple as setting up up a direct flight from A to B, but when you're dealing with cargo, it just aint so :(
They have a lot of rules as far as layovers, connections, and air plane type when it comes to live animals ... For example ... Delta Dash you only need 60 minutes between flights ... Delta Priority First, you need 2.5 hours ... it's crazy ... a lot of times it's the exact same flight, but because of the different methods you won't get on the ones you want.
But in the end, I'm just happy that there are companies willing to ship live snakes ... because if there weren't ... we'd be FUBAR. ;) :D

Re: Question on shipping out of the USA
So if I wanted to get a snake shipped to my closest airport (Edinburgh) there could be a total nightmare even once it's arrived in the u.k.?
Thats kind of worrying.:(
I just had dreams of me taking a taxi to and from the airport and dancing at the terminal building as the direct flight drew up and strolling casually home with a new bundle of joy - giggling like a schoolgirl natch.

A good breeder that is experienced in shipping will know how to "work the system" with the airlines and get an animal from point a to point b problem free ... just make sure you work with someone with a lot of experience shipping and you'll have no problems. ;)

Thank you for clearing that up.:)
It's nice to know roughly how long the cites etc takes but could any one give me a ballpark figure on the shipping to the uk?
Don't worry I'm a looong way away from ordering ( still testing rack components) so won't stress on the accuracy of prices/timescales etc was just curious and wondering how much it adds onto the cost of the animals in a general way.
At the moment the exchange rates are in my favour but obviously that's a changeable thing as well - but you guys have an amazing choice of animals at what seems (to me) to be amazing prices that I cant help a touch of the old green eyed monsters as I drool at the websites.:D

Air Cargo to the UK and Europe generally runs around $250 (US) depending on fuel surcharges ... and some airports across the pond charge transfer fees just to connect through them ... Then, the CITES permit is $100 (US) and the US Fish & Wildlife inspection fee is $50 (US) ... so I basically tell my UK and European customers $400 (US) give or take, but depending on the size of the order, that number is flexible.
Hope that helps.
