    Okay, call me callous and mean but the first thing I thought when I heard about this was
    "thank goodness" He was much too digified for all this to begin with. He's at peace now with no pain. I'm far from sad. I'm thrilled for him. He was an athelete, a champion and a spirit all his own. He would have been miserable trapped in a broken body.
    It's very much for the best but should have been done sooner.

    That poor animal. I know how hard it must have been for the owners and handlers, but now at least he is at peace and no longer in pain.. such a sad story all-around.

    I think Barbaro's legacy will be in the memory of how he pulled a world together in common hope and prayer for his recovery. What a tribute to a true champion. Also in the struggle to save him, vets likely have learned even more about severe breaks that once meant immediate death to a horse. Perhaps future horses may be saved using some of the knowledge gained from the fight to save this beautiful animal.
