Re: Charlotte/Rock Hill/surrounding areas
I can't check out the feeder forum. :( I understand the role of predator and prey, and I have no problem with using rodents as feeders... but I have found there are certain conversations and images I just really have to shield my silly sensitive soul from. :P
I can joke about it though. This photo's original title was "Cat Food":

It would probably make economic sense for me to breed my girls and use their offspring for feeders... but I can't do it. Country girl, but raised too soft I guess. :P
I *am* really glad that so many reptile owners are respectful of the prey and raise them in a loving manner and take care to euthanize them humanely. :)

I can respect that. :) Most of the posts there are usually "look at the new female rat I got" or "check out these adorable breeder mice I've acquired". I've not seen any pictures there of feeding pictures.
I'm not trying to convince you to go check it out, just wanted to explain more about what type of things are posted there (like I've got three new blue hooded rat girls that I just posted pictures of last night who are going be future mommas and one beige hooded who looks destined to be a "roomie" for my resting girls as she's likely not going to be able to breed - but will live out her life in my care).
Re: Charlotte/Rock Hill/surrounding areas
Hmmm...Reptile Basics, i've never heard of it...i'll have to look into that. Where was this store with such bad conditions? Or what was the name?
Re: Charlotte/Rock Hill/surrounding areas
Reptile Basics is linked from this website and recommended by many on the forums. And it just happens to be relatively close to us!
The reptile store I was referring to is in Fort Mill, called SC Reptile Exchange, if I remember correctly. It's really near the NC/SC border.
:)
Re: Charlotte/Rock Hill/surrounding areas
I've never been to that Pet Store...i'll have to stop in and see what your talking about. Lets cross our fingers he's changed his ways.
With such as extravagant hobby, unfit conditions is no way to create a successful business. Even minor enthusiasts should be disgusted by someone who so clearly sees mere dollar signs when it comes to living, breathing animals.
Re: Charlotte/Rock Hill/surrounding areas
Let me know what you think. We were in there less than a week ago, so I doubt he's changed much since. Or maybe we just caught him on a bad day.
The same guy has a really pretty nice website: http://www.carolinareptileexchange.com/ which is how we found them. But they also have something of a bad rep online as well, so we went with some trepidation, knowing not to believe everything you read one way or the other, and hoping for the best. We were sadly disappointed. :(
Anyway, maybe if enough local rep fans get interested and involved there might be something that could be done? That would be nice to see... Check him out and let us know what you think. :)
