    Justin,

May God bless your family, and give you strength to overcome this tragedy.

Did you have flood insurance? Were any of your reptiles covered by your household insurance? I am sure that you can get your racks repaired/replaced under flood insurance. There are ways to protect your drains from clogging/freezing -- as long as you are going to do repairs, it would be good to look into upgrading the drains.

I am sure that any new critter friends that you aquire will benefit from this experience.

    Best wishes, Akiva.

This stuff is hard enough for adults but for children it's that much harder. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

The girls seem to be okay... they are both still young, although my oldest seems to have a much better understanding of what happened. Fortunately, my youngest seems oblivious to the permanance of it, and is curious when she is going to get more tree frogs. I'm not sure the gravity of it has hit anyone just yet. Except Milo our dog.

I did have flood insurance, however, it seems I'm not going to get anything back for the reptiles themselves. As for the drains, it was their placement that caused the biggest problems. The drains are all located in areas most likely to allow water into the house, so they are actually outside. There is a drain in the house as well, but it simply couldn't handle the amount of water that was coming in.

Right now I'm trying to find out how plausible it is to put several more drains inside. Unfortunately the basement simply wasn't prepared for a pipe to blow, and I didn't have the foresight to think about it. The house is about 30 years old, and prior to this 2 inches in the basement was as much as it's ever got.

Justin, very sorry to hear of the loss of your reptiles, get ahold of me when you get your reptile room set back up. I have a couple of normal BP females I would like to give to you to help get you going again. :)

    Nice gesture Ed :gj:

Sorry about the loss on everything. I hope it doesn't discourage you from continuing on with reptiles.
