If trained properly no breed is any different to walk then any other. Though starting out Siberians can be headstrong so don't get discouraged if it takes him awhile to give in that he knows what you're talking about.

I agree, hair hair hair hair and guess what? More hair. That undercoat is crazy to clean up, not quite as bad as Mals though.
He's quite attractive, congrats on your new addition!

He's just adorable. I'll be he'll bet in heaven with the winters you get up there.

I have to disagree on the harness suggestion though...harnesses just allow the dogs to pull harder, instead of teaching them good behavior.

Training from early on is great, and there is no reason they can't learn to walk politely. If that fails though, or if you're starting off with a rowdy dog, I'm a huge fan of the Gentle Leader head-collars for pulling dogs.

I always laugh when I see people come in to the vet hospital being dragged by some huge ill-behaved brute in a harness, and gasping between breaths that they "just can't use a collar". I know that 10 minutes with a Gentle Leader and I could have the dog led by a child...it's all about leverage. :-)

Do get a proper sled harness and do pulling work though...it's tremendous fun!

    Edited for typos.

i guess you see more of this breed then i do, because everyone i see( being a sled dog and all) don't do well on normal leads. but i dont see as many paople with them. When i resuced juno he was for some reason raised on a chicken farm:eek: of all places. i when thru a seiberain husky rescuse and delt with them for a while, even they said its a tough breed to walk with a normal lead, i felt it was easier to walk him being 85lbs in a harness it felt like there was more control and when it did do sled work he wasnt chokeing. but hey every dog is different.

well as far as winter goes up here we haven't had one yet. last saturday it was 65 degrees out.. this morning it is 2 degrees. but as far as snow about 3 to 4 inches. last year at this time we had 3 to 4 feet. As fair as the harness goes thats what we have him on now. seems to work good. he has slipped out of a collar 3 times. yes it was tight, not inhumanly tight tho.

Oh what a lovely pup! I'm a big fan of the Gentle Leader. It's completely changed our lives with our own puppy Gunnar (9 month old mixed lab/boxer and a VERY stubborn dog).

    http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...headcollar.jpg

Not only for walking but it helps with excessive barking, jumping on people, grabbing up garbage left on the street (labs are horrid for that), I just can't say enough about these head collars being the way to go. Makes sense that you can move a horse or a cow around by it's head so why not a dog.

I had a lab x husky cross years ago. She was actually bred in the Canadian Yukon where they will mix a bit of labrador into pure Huskies to settle them down a bit. She was a pup that came out as too much lab, too little husky so wasn't wanted. Best thing I ever did with her was use a Gentle Leader for walks (any harness type thing only encouraged her instinct to pull harder). We did purchase her a proper padded pulling harness though and she thoroughly enjoyed pulling wagons and sleds around with kids in them or even helping haul wood for the woodstove. These northern breeds are bred to pull and to work and I really think they are happiest when they can do what their instincts drive them to.

Hope you have a really good fenced yard. Huskies and Mals tend to end up running loose as they are amazing jumpers, climbers and diggers and once out they will run like the wind. Oh and invest in some Kong dog toys, you cannot beat them for durability and they are a godsend when your puppy is teething. :)
