I disagree with PETA in a lot of situations(ok so MOST situations) but honestly, why the heck should ANY non-profit animal welfare organization spend it's money to feed animals destined for sale to profit owners who obviously don't care for them? They are CATTLE. OWNED by ranchers who are not caring for them. Our tax dollars will go to airlift hay in to feed them, so the rancher can turn around and sell them for profit in spring.
Don't get me wrong, I think that food should be gotten to the poor animals.. but I also think that the blame and the bill should go to the right people. Why is it that everyone has their hand out, going "Not my problem."?
Find the owners, confiscate the cows as soon as there is a thaw and sell them to pay for the danged hay and helicopters! Its ridiculous that people will scream that PETA and the HUmane Society should pay for this 'rescue' when the owners should have planned for something like this. It's not like we don't get blizzards nearly every year. And every year there is cattle that get stranded out in the middle of nowhere and get hay drops, and every year the ranchers do the same thing.
This year it was more widespread, and better covered by the media. But guess what? Happens every year out there.

Because...that Filet Mignon just wouldn't taste right coming from a frozen cow.

Re: More PETA
Wow, that whole website is unsettlingly slanted. I got a little creeped out reading it.
As far as the cows go...I can see PETA's point...why should they help support a cause which they whole-heartedly disagree with? Picture asking the NAACP to help rescue a KKK compound isolated by rising floodwaters!
I'm betting the government officials in Colorado are way more sympathetic to the meat market than they are to animal rights nuts and are just using this example as another way to discredit PETA. Not saying that I agree with PETA in general...they're a buncha wackos for multiple reasons. Just that nobody is free of agendas.

Re: More PETA
Maybe PETA just needs to change their name. I mean, after all "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals" is a rather broad title that seems to get them into trouble and look like hypocritical idiots....case in point....cows in Colorado and roach eating at theme parks, vs. Fear Factor and *their* bug eating excursions.
So, maybe they should change their name to "People for the Ethical Treatment of WILD Animals"
Or maybe "People for the Ethical Treatment of FURRY animals"
Or..."People for the Ethical Treatment of animals that are NOT CATTLE, LIVE STOCK, PETS, REPTILES, OR INVETEBRATES"
Maybe if they did that then they wouldn't look like such idiots all the time.
Just my $.02

Re: More PETA
No, they'd still look like idiots. They are extremely talented and practiced at it, after all.
At our local Ren Faire, they were protested outside about the elephant ride. They had signs saying "Free Judy!! Send her Back to Africa!!"
The main problem? Judy was not only captive bred, but not african. She was an Asian elephant. She also happens to be 37 years old, in great health and enjoys her life on nearly 25 acres of pasture in between occasional trips to give kids rides and get fed carrots for a day or so. She is a totally awesome animal.
We were nice to the protesters though, we even offered to take them out for burgers... haha.

Agreed, I also read the other article in a link posted down the page about Peta and how they came about and their history. What a bunch of wack jobs lol. With the things they do, and they lies, assaults, and God knows what else. How do they expect anyone that has all their screws tightened right to ever listen to them and take them seriously? They just keep digging themselves a deeper hole. No government is every going to listen to these people when they want laws changed to ban animals. Or to "liberate" them.
Maybe someone needs to "liberate" Peta.

Re: More PETA
PETA had good beginnings. They wanted good humane treatment of animals. NOW they are a bunch of whack jobs with a VERY good PR and legal department. They don't think any animals should ever be kept in captivity. Not cows, not dogs, not reptiles. What do they think? Everyone shoud... have their pets euthanized? Turn them loose to die slowly and horribly? I believe that animals need to be treated humanely, but geez. Get a clue as to real life people.
I do have to say this, before I get jumped, since people want to read all sorts of other stuff into my posts recently... I don't mind if people want to be vegetarian. Don't try to make me be one. But you eat whatever you want.

I respectfully disagree.....see the other thread running concurrently with this one as of now.....http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...7&postcount=56
see the links in this post....and read up on their founding memebers and their actions.....they will bend reality to suit their needs....some people think PETA members are stupid....this is true to an extent for some of them....but I think some of their actions towards Stroke Researcher Ed Taub show how intellectually dishonest they are......
