Re: Our Psycho Spotted hates us :(
Got up today and found out he had shed!! and had taken his little pinky I left overnight for him. So I'm hoping that is that. I'm now going to leave him for 48 hours then start to handle him for the 10-15 mins each day - should once a day be enough?

No, we'll carry on some more ... I wasn't there myself and didn't want to disturb him as he'd eaten but apparently his new skin looks very beautiful :)

No, a pinky doesn't sound much for an adult but he's a very small snake (only about the same thickness as a fuzzy - seems strange to me not using rats LOL). When we first got him we were told he was on fuzzies but I wanted to give him his first meal a bit smaller. I'll take your advice though, Steve, I'll offer him 2 next time.

I'm guessing he'll be full grown by the time he's 2 - what size do they normally take then? or do they have 2 of fuzzies or small mice - I just can't get over how small he is compared to my big girls :P

I agree. Last March we got Felix as a baby, and he was eating rat pinks then. I have a bag of adult mice that are two small for all of the other larger snakes but once the adult mice are gone, Felix and Kishnah will get rat fuzzies.

small mice? I'm starting to think my spotted is an extra small one for his species. He was a 2005 baby and although is 1 1/2 ft long approx (I haven't bothered him about measuring) he isn't much wider than a pencil.

It was 48 hours after his last feeding last night so I got him out and he was OK going through my hands one minute and the next he would lunge out and latch on to me (doesn't hurt of course) and even tried constricting me  Well I thought, he must still be hungry as he was constricting as well so I defrosted a large pink and put it in for him to eat overnight but it was still there this morning - so maybe he isn't hungry.

I'm off for a couple of days now so I think I'll just wait until next scheduled feeding day and offer him the 2 then.

One thing I need to ask - should I get him out each evening for handling time even if he's hiding under his paper or hides or wait until he's out exploring (he doesn't seem to come out much)? It's something I'd never do with a monitor but having a snake that isn't tolerant of handling is something totally new to me. My BP is always in front of her glass at night positively begging to come out and my boa is just tolerant and cool with anything.

personally i'd trade it in. after all, this is your child's snake and don't you want this to be a positive experience for her? once she has more experience herself, perhaps she'll want to try another more "nippy" snake.

but ultimately, it's your choice and we all support you in it, regardless of what you decide to do :wuv:

trading it in will do no good. all species in the antaresia genus are nippy. if you want to trade it for a more docile species like a ball python or similar species. :)
