I hear of more people using Helix and multiple helix at that for some people, so I would choose Helix.

Sounds like you already made your decision but I remember a few previous threads about both stats. I'm using herpstats myself, the newer ND model has the night drop option built in if you needed it. I've never used a helix but I think they are in same price range. Both are probably just as good, but helix has been around longer if I remember correctly.

I think I am also late here... but one point I'd like to make is the problem with "cooking" your snakes won't be because the snake didn't move away from the heat. For some reason they do not realize they are getting burned and they will stay on the heat source, so it won't matter if they have more room to get away from it or not.

Another thing is that yes you could have used one thermostat for both 3" flexwatt lines. When I get an additional rack I will be plugging it into my Helix that is already controlling my first rack. This will work because the racks will have the same size and length of flexwatt.

One more thing, this one might still be of some value to you, if you are worried about your thermostat failing, get a back up. If you are going to be using the proportional (Helix) as your primary, plug it into a backup on/off tstat (Johnsons, Ranco). Set the back up a couple degrees higher than your Helix, and if your proportional ever fails, the on/off will take over and stop the flexwatt from heating up too much.

(If I am wrong somewhere about the above, someone please correct me.)
