You're right, Freakie, religious discrimination might be the wrong word for the example I used. I tend to think of it as both discriminating against a particular religion AND using religion to discriminate against others, and from what I understand the Salvation Army does both. But I have no idea if that's the right word or not. :confuzd: I should have used an example from the Jewish article instead about them firing employees who'd worked there for so many years for not being Christian.

Just for the record, though, "lifestyle" isn't the right word. Vegan, Biker, or Pirate is a lifestyle. Or Vegan Biker Pirate, if you will. ;) Homosexuality is "sexual orientation" with which we are born. Much like heterosexuality.

But yeah, basically the whole point of the post was just to say not to jump in with both feet this holiday season without looking unless you're not sensitive about what your money might be funding. I prefer to donate food, clothes, and toys directly myself, and in those cases I don't pay much attention to which charity because I know what it will be used for. Unless they're hurling canned food at people or something now, but the chances of that are slim. Chances are good, they'll actually use it to feed someone.

If I'm donating money, I'd rather be sure it's being used to help someone instead of hurt someone. And because it's so hard to tell who's on the up and up and who isn't, I'm sticking with donating food, clothes, and toys.
