Once you learn you'll find it is very simple. Just don't take someones elses word for the sex of your snake thats where the mistakes come into play.

As a health care professional, I am not willing to put a metal probe into anything without supervision. And, from what I've read here, even the experts are wrong or unsure from time to time. My question was about behavior, as I am sure this has to have happened to someone.

Have you called the NC Zoo's Reptile Department to see if they know of any reputable herpers in your area who can teach you to probe? Or ask them for a herp vet referral near you - who can also teach you? How far is Rich from Reptile Basics from you? How about the NC Herp Society? They may know someone near you.

I don't know where you're located, but I'm driving to Greensboro a few days before Christmas - I could even teach you if you'd like if you're not too far from there.

Well, as it turns out, the "he" that I adopted from the Rescue is a "she". A full figured gal, at that. My scale only goes to 2000 gm and she pegs it out. I see her making beautiful music with the Emperor when the time comes.

Excellent! So, are you still interested in learning how to probe, or did you get someone to teach you?

Looks like I wouldn't be able to meet in December, but I'm planning another full week long trip in February or March.

And clarification of Wake Forest - the town or the University? Two opposite directions! :)

Town. And yes, I would love to learn how to probe. I bit the bullet and popped both her and the Emperor, and it was pretty distinct. I hope they are all that easy. If you have time in the spring it would be great to get together. I'll get some probes and we can really piss them off. Oh, and now I need a name. I was waiting till I knew for sure.
