    First of all, thanks for raining on my parade... kidding. All I can say is, different strokes for different folks. I'm sure your mother is a very smart woman, and I'm glad she uses the word "palomita" for moth.

    It truly depends on who you ask, where you live and which dictionary you use. I have a dictionary that says "polilla" is moth, a spanish professor who's a native speaker and has never heard that word before, and a stranger's mother who says it means termites. Who knows. It sounds pretty, and that's her name. Call her termites if you'd like...
