Hmm. I wonder if I can go into it and restore it.. it does have the function whereby you can go back to an earlier date.. but I can't get past the screen telling me to insert the recovery disk to replace a lost file... grr, I feel like I have been had. It's like someone going into Petco and buying a WC hatchling with mites that won't eat, when they could have gotten a CBB from a reputable breeder and saved money/grief.. I will be calling HP tomorrow as I am frazzled from work and we have a minor celebrity coming over tomorrow (an Ultimate Fighting Champ fighter!) Need to clean house, clean barn.. laundry... sleep.. go on BP.net before my man gets home... lol.

The buildings I service are primarily HP shops (use 99% HP products). They are usually pretty good about getting replacement parts out to me but the phone calls are usually a waste of time as their out of country "tech support" reads through a list of things related to my problem that I've already performed. Now I can go online through special access and usually get what I need sent to me the same or next day.

If you can get past the start menu, the system restore option should be there, without the need for a recovery disc - I think what it is asking you to do is backup your files/documents to disc, as they could be lost doing a recovery point.

As Tek pointed out above, most of the newer computers these day's, have this function built in - but yet the recovery discs do not always come along with them for whatever reason.

The recovery discs, should always be used as the last resort - unless your data is backed up, there is the potential to lose everything.

The system restore function, should get you out of the virus you picked up, however restoring to a previous point in time, will cause you to lose any updates you have to any other programs you have on the computer, so you must go and update your programs again - Hope this helps and makes sense

Have you tried booting the system into safe mode? Hitting F8 when the bios begins (before windows starts up) should either give you the option or put you into safe mode.

Ahhhh.. the wonders of Windows. :D

Good luck fixing it and/or getting a Mac.

You can tell I'm a tad bit biased here.
