Oh I'm envious! It's hard to find good sushi out here w/o driving all the way into Boston.

But once a year, we do get an all-you-can-catch fix!

oh man that is beeeeeautiful!!!! wish i was there!

we made a few different sushis... and learned that in japan they just use whatever they have on hand.

so we had tuna mixed with japanese mayo (kinda like tuna salad)
    shrimp with the same mayo
    crab meat
    avacado
    cucumber
    corn mixed with japanese mayo

and then we just made whatever combo we wanted... the lesson was more about how to prepare the rice (with sushi seasoning - which is like a vinegary oil that you 'cut' into the rice so you don't squish the rice) - how much rice to put on the nori and then how to roll it properly - and finally... how to cut it the right way.

all in all... it was a great class and i learned so much. the corn was sooooooo good. she recommended using beans as well. :)

and then we decided that if we took our little mats, and covered it with saran wrap... we could use rice krispie square mix like rice, add a drizzle of chocolate and some coconut shavings... and then roll it... and make a killer dessert!!!

    mmm mmmm yummmmmmy!

    Evil people!

Now I want my urchin rolls . . and eel/avacado .. . and alaska rolls . . .and crazy dragon rolls!

We are insanely fortunate to have one of the best sushi joints I've ever dined at about 20 miles down the interstate - never in a million years would I have imagined you could get decent sushi here in WV . . much less stellar sushi.

I took the weef out this weekend and we snagged some - she's a big fan of the spicy 2-in-1 roll and I'm kind of an eel and urchin freak.

Congrats on the new skillz leesha - what time is dinner?

I love Sushi! It doesn't hurt to live near NYC where the best Sushi in the country is prepared. If anyone ever gets up to NYC try a place called Bond Street. Ridiculously expensive but the best Sushi I have ever had.

Yep! I love it too! EXCEPT for the urchin.... Blahh..... lol

I've tried it twice, and it just seems to expand in your mouth.... ugh. I dug on a "live" squid in Korea!

BEST of luck on your new talent! You gotta let me know if you ever do the crunchy rolls! :D
