Let me clear up the confusion.. the pet store is wrong, and mlededee is right. :)

Pet stores love to make $$$.. that's what they do. They'll try to sell you UV bulbs for ball pythons too.

Yea acually they tride to tell me it needed the uv for my python so i got it when i first got the snake. She showed me a book saying geckos, couldnt find cresteds but said they're all the same, and it said they needed UVA and moonglo at night. Also that the lighting does something for its eating habbits, like it controls when they eat.

I mean you guys have had gecko's for how long useing no light and your geckos are healthy right?

day geckos and other diurnal geckos do need uvb/uva lighting. cresteds, however, are nocturnal, therefore they do not require any special lighting. it doesn't matter what the people at the pet store tell you--they DON'T NEED IT! look in the rhac and crested books written by the experts and they will tell you--no special lighting needed. don't waste your money. your gecko will be healthy if you provide it a good diet consisting of cgd and dusted insects, provide fresh water and a clean arboreal environment between 68-78 degrees or so.
