how do you prevent this prolapse thing, those hemipenes look painful

Not sure how the hemipenis becomes prolapsed.I have heard that the inner anus tissues can become torn due to large urates. Not sure if this is totaly true though.

The vet did not send me home with any additional medication, unfortunately... Also, I didn't really think of taking photographic evidence of the prolapse when it occurred, although now I think that would've been a good idea.

The vet is closed now, but I will call again tomorrow to find out if there's any additional medication that I could purchase. The surgery involved local anesthesia, and left my bp obviously stressed - it was unable to curl itself up, but attempts to do so at any sign of external disturbance. Two stitches were used, and there's a swollen lump where the prolapsed tissue was pushed back in. The vet warned that if the flesh had been exposed for too long, my bp would most likely not survive. If my bp makes it through, I get to take him back to the vet in two weeks for stitch removal.

I guess the most I can do for him right now is make him comfortable in his home.

Just giving a quick update - my bp is recovering just fine. After the first night, the swelling went down considerably, and although I'm happy that he's slithering around, he seems to be avoiding his hides and instead curling up in the corners.

He might have hurt himself by rubbing against the side of the hide. Now he could be scared of it.Great to hear he is doing better:)
