    you also can keep all the adult rats in one big cage, with 10G or larger for individual moms. Then just leave mom in ther longer so she doesn't get bred, plenty of food ot build her back up, then back into the big tank/cage until she shows.
    I have mine in racks, and leave moms, babies(until weaning age) and dads all int here constantly. Haven't had any problems, AND more than one mom will feed and watch the babies, so ONE mom doesn't need to. My rats are all healthy plump ratties, all happy. Once in a while I get 2 moms argueing over one baby and I move that mom to another bin, no more problems.
    More than one male never seems to be a problem, as the males seem to get along great, while adult females can sometimes fight.
    I take out the weanling age/size and they go into LARGE rubbermaid bins with wire tops until feeding time.
