Re: How to start breeding
so if it is a male what would be ur advice on how to start as far as what to get
Re: How to start breeding
Get a female 100% het albino and raise it up to breed to the male to see if he is het. If he is you will have a chance at getting albinos.
Re: How to start breeding
i wouldn't breed a 100% het girl to a possible het male:eek: after raising and caring for a girl for 3 years, i wouldn't gamble on a possible het male. either a 100% het male or a visual morph, imo.
on a breeding plan, figure out what you want to do. how many snakes can you care/feed? how many babies can you house/feed? what morphs do you like the best? figure out what you want and like the best and go for it! make a plan to meet your goals. buy females first, they take longer to get up to size. hope this helps a bit.

Re: How to start breeding
thanks for all your advice i hope it helps me to start a successful breeding project
Re: How to start breeding
Trying to get bargain basement prices on hets is a good way to get burned, you need to know the breeders you buy from, even if they are just the guy down the road you need to know he's honest.
Snakes, just like any other animal, require proper care and environments and that means that not everything is going to be cheap.
It always causes me to shake my head when I see people wanting the cheapest cheapest cheapest because 90% of the time they are looking for a fast buck.
Enjoy your 50% possible het, have it sexed, read up on breeding and morphs and genetics then think about it in a few years when your possible het is ready to breed.
If you're trying to get in it for the money that's a loooong way from happening if at all.
I step away from my soapbox now.
Re: How to start breeding
Besides what others have already suggested...my advice would be to just start reading everything you can about BP's....over and over again. Collect some good books and read them often. Find a forum (or two or three) that you really like and just read every related thread that pops up. Not just about "breeding"....but about everything BP and snake related. Go to all the local shows you can and talk to as many experienced folks face-to-face and on the phone as you can.
It takes SO much more than just a skim through a book, or a thread on a forum to tell you what you need to know. It takes time to absorb and learn even just the basics, much less the advanced knowledge needed to successfully keep, breed, hatch, and establish healthy babies.
It's an exciting journey! Don't be in too much of a hurry!!
Re: How to start breeding
im not in a hurry. ive been around reptiles for the better part of my life and ive researched tons of information and save everything on them in my pc. Im not looking to make a quick buck but i want to have all my animals from an early start. i know i have at least 2-3 years before my females will be ready so i want to start soon and im not worried about my snake not being het since it was only 50$
Re: How to start breeding
but i still appreciate everything everybody has to say
Re: How to start breeding
i would also like any other advice anyone can give me on my way to starting a breeding project
Re: How to start breeding
My advice would be to keep your male as a pet and get a het albino male and female. As Vaugn mentioned, you will be raising up a het albino female for three years and you may or may not have a het male. A het male will cost you slightly more than a normal male, or even the same price as a normal if you purchase a het albino pair from a breeder.
Good luck!
