My BP was swallowing a mouse that was still alive?!?!

Im guessing it would suffocate before that became an issue?

My snake Rajiv did this on Thursday, I thought it was leaving the rat (with out eating it) because I saw it constrict it but not for long....well the rat was still kicking and he started eating it....

I would just be afraid that the mouse/rat could be biting down onto the insides of the snake/s mouth; I always watch mine when they constrict and make sure I can see the teeth of the rat and that they are not on my snake.

I do the same thing. I watch them teeth rather carefully.

I hate when the snake starts to constrict and it seems like the rats teeth and sticking into the snake...hard to explain but do you get what I mean?

I've only had 1 snake get bit and it was when he was constricting the rat...he went through 1 shed now bit still has a little cut/scar :(
Since then I have never even had a niddle, these past few rats have been good one's. But yes I to watch them like a hawk (the rats) when there in with my snakes...especially my shy/picky eaters.

I have definately seen this when feeding coloubrids, but not yet to be seen with my boids.

totally get it. i fed my bp a med to large rat and it was a fighter it wouldn't stop twitching. when i lookek in on it i saw the rats teeth on my bp. and my snake wrap up tighter and when she did there was blood all over the cage. i was freakin,, after she finished and started to eat i saw it was the rats eyes popout. it was gross. but i thought the blood was from my bp..

monty my bp used to eat the pinkies live with out constricting them which i found wierd but once i bumped his food up he started contricting and eating fine
