Better security for the snake and more consistant temp grade if the narrow side faces out :)

I am doing mine with the long side facing out because that is what fits in my closet.

Since my room is thermostatically controlled, no need to keep it narrow side out:)

Ok so...narrow side out....i keep my room about 80 with an oil filed heater....any reason to have heat strips for cold and warm side, controlled independently?

EDIT: by heat strips...i mean flexwatt. watm side strip to maintain 93 and the cool side strip to maintain 83?

You will be fine with a single 3" piece of flexwatt. Properly controlled with a stat it will give you your 92-94 on the hot spot and a nice gradient down to the cool end.
