Re: my snake is going to 1st grade
again thank you all i now truely know how great this site is. you are all very informative, half of this i would not of thought of. you guys rock. the chaos with the kids i thought of. just having three kids its a fight to see who gets a better view of feeding time. and the other two are younger then my son. so it will diffenetly be two finger petting at thier tables for the last part of the talk. i just really have to do my home work about snakes in the wilds habits and how to break it down to them. its easy with my kids because thier around it all the time, some of these kids may not even have a pet. Letting them pick a potential name should be cute..

I forget too that some kids aren't used to pets especially snakes. We had one little boy in the house visiting who saw a snake and started going on about "snake! it's mean! it bites". My son who was 4 at the time, sort of looked up and in this eyerolling kind of "oh for heaven's sakes" voice said...."it's JUST a snake!" then went back to watching his cartoons LOL.

Recently when he got his own BP from Cue I had to confirm to his teacher that he indeed did own a ball python as she and his classmates thought he was making up a story.

You should see it when my 13 year old friends come over to my house for the first time! They are either all over the snakes or wont even be on the same floor as them! But all of my friends that I met in fourth grade that hated and were scared of snakes now all like snakes and will at least touch them. It's amazing to think of their change just becauase they've known me!

Ya when I go into the younger kids classrooms alot of the times they ask their parents if they can have a snake afterwards. Sometimes the parents will say "Oh no" or "I'll think about it".

I would bring a map along and hi-light where balls live in the wild. Have pictures of larger snakes as well(ask for permission before using online pics). Maybe have pics of a ball with its eggs and the babies hatching from the eggs. If we educate the younger generations, there is much less of a chance they will turn into snake killing zombies like so many people are. Be sure to let then know like someone also said, never touch a wild snake without a grownup supervising. Include something about how they swallow prey whole.

thats a good idea about the map. i think hunting for the pics is going to be the most time consuming.
