Digesting meals is a very energy consuming process for snakes. Their hearts and other organs enlarge to compensate for the increased activity. Feeding once a week is more than adequate and allows their systems some 'down' time. This is what works for those who have kept bps for decades. I've found it to be true in my case as well. :gj: ;)

I would disagree. If it is bigger than the thickest part of the snake, then it would leave a big lump and probably be too much food depending on the size/age of the snake.

Just because a snake might look hungry after an appropriate sized meal, doesnt mean you should up the size.

my snakes are around 20 inches, and i feed them each a hopper, and i do reccomend feeding prey slightly smaller than the girth

    Your welcome. :colbert2:

Does anyone have that link to the scientific paper on snake digestion? I know it was linked from here to fauna. I just can't remember enough, of the key words, to do a good search. :sigh2: It was very enlightening. I'll see if I can try again later.

No, the one I am thinking of was a scanned scientific article. I may be wrong but iI believe it was primarily written about corn snakes.

I feed a bit bigger than the girth of the snake and no problems so far.

I also have heard about the slow digestion part- someone's vet recommended he only feed every 2 weeks for that reason. (Sorry I have no idea where I read that or even what forum).
