A small generator or get a back up battery. I use my computers heavy duty surge protector/battery for my snakes.
Anyone else have any more info on using a battery for back-up heat during power outages?

Tanya, good luck with your power/heat situation! Does that solar powered generator have a battery? If not, it won't work when the power goes off at night!
Eventually, I will have to purchase a generator. For now, I have a kerosene space heater that I plan to use only in emergencies.

Well it stores it so yes it does. :D There are two sizes, that you can even take camping, which can be a good thing.
Our propane heater is from camping. We have a lot of supplies because we camp a lot, and 3 years ago we had a hurricane then a massice blizzard that knocked out power. We never got around to getting a small generator, but I have wanted to get one for the reptiles.
