    Re: Possible Laptop Upgrade
its actually easier to me (and again I've been doing IT from many aspects of the ladder for about 10yrs) to upgrade a laptop. Most people just don't know how to do it and that's what makes them assume its "hard". In most cases in a laptop to upgrade the hard drive or memory is simply the removal of a couple small screws and you remove a small panel and right there is the component you want to replace. You may or may not have to remove another couple small screws. The hard drive and ram are generally easiest and now days its almost as easy to get at the processors...and they are not integrated in most cases. Video chipsets on the other hand on lower to mid range laptops are still integrated and cannot be upgraded without a system board replacement.

I think memory is a good suggestion for you. First thing you need to do is dig up the specs on your laptop and see if it tells you the speed and type of your ram. If you can't find that info post the model of your Emachines laptop and I'll find it for you. I have a 512mb stick of laptop memory sitting in a drawer here that isn't being used and is collecting dust...I *might* be able let it go ;) Otherwise for sure I/we can point you to something compatible once you post more info. There may even be a bios update that allows you to run with more than 768mb of total system ram.
