    Welcome to BPNet. If you haven't had a look at our caresheet for ball/royal pythons, it's a great source of information available here to you. Also the search function in husbandry should give you all sorts of additional information.

    Bp's can refuse due to husbandry issues (incorrect temps, et), stress from overhandling or just being purchased by the new owner, a loud busy enviroment, ill health, a poor start in life (being sold as captive bred when they are not or having never eaten before being sold) and a lot more reasons - all can be addressed so your chance of having a happy, healthy snake is much greater.

    As far as the aspen, it should be fine - snake stomach acids can fully break down bone, hair and teeth. If you are concerned, however, you can always put down a pad of newspaper in the enclosure and remove it after the snake has eaten and gone back to the hide to digest.
