Well, with males it usually just slides right in really easy.

I don't even have to count the scales to know.

This one is tougher and just stops. It also appears female when popped.

So what's the problem then? One scale?

It probes deeper than my other females. And when I mention it goes 5 scales, everyone has been telling me it's not a female and it's really a male. The doubt was planted in my mind and I wanted to see if I was right thinking female or if the "critics" were right saying male.

I'm acctually glad this thread came about. I took my newly acquired "female" to the vet and the vet I found around my area is part of ARAV, so i knew he had a lot of experience with reptiles. He is also a very active member of the local herp community, so i had confidence in going to see him.

He probed her pretty deep and said he was 80% sure it was a female. He said it could be a deep female or a very shallow male. She probed about 4-5 scales.

After reading this, i have a bit more confidence. I guess I won't know for sure till she drops some eggs :D

But seriously ... how does it "feel"? ... even at one scale of depth you can tell ... males are "tight" and females are "wide" ... once you have a bunch under your belt, it gets pretty easy.

Adam, I have a feeling you may be hanging around the wrong kinda females.
