I apologize for even having to ask, but...

Why are you getting another snake when this one isn't even set up properly?

In my honest opinion, you need to take some time and make your first snake's health and well-being your priority instead of getting another one. Your Ball Python looks very stressed because his environment isn't what it should be and the condition of his eyecaps shows that he hasn't been getting adequate care.

How are you measuring temperatures? Do you have a digital thermometer? For hides, I would suggest three small clay or plastic pot saucers. Just cut or knock a hole out of one side and they make wonderful hides.

Also, since it is nearing winter and getting cooler, that tank needs insulated from any temperature fluctuations. You can find 3/4" foam insulation board at Home Depot or Lowe's. Cut it to fit 3 sides and the bottom.

Do you have a thermostat for the heating pad or a dimmer for the lamp? If not, you are running a risk of burning your snake(and incurring expensive vet bills) since you aren't measuring the temperatures of the uncontrolled heating pad.

This was just some friendly advice, not meant in a condescending way at all. I just hope you take the advice and set your snake up with the proper environment BEFORE adding another snake to the picture. You may want to start reading Cassandra's Glass Tank Setup Sticky. It is very helpful in properly setting up a glass enclosure.

    Just my :2cent:

I just put another hide in there, and the heating pad is alright.... his cage before was fine, or so i thought, and now that i have been on the forum, i've learned about humidity, and all that kind of stuff. When i got Ed, i was told, just keep him at room temp, as long as it is above 75....maybe put a lamp on there....clean the poop out, give him water, and if you feel like buying a hideunder, you can put that in there. Well, i have scince learned diffrently from you all (thanks for that btw), so his condition should improve dramatically pretty soon.
    Thanks for the advice though!

Amy,the only question i have is what is that plastic thin in the left corner of the pics? I hope its not his water bowl,if it is he will tip that over very easily.I use ceramic like bowls for small hamsters about 4inches round for the young snakes. That would be what i recommend for that size of snake and the cage.

Yeah, thats what im using for a water bowl right now. He has never tiped it over, and he climbs all over it all the time. It's worked for a year, but sometime this weekend ill get one of the real ones...

Whomever told you to keep him at room temps as long as its over 75 needs to be slapped! They also told you if you feel like you want to buy a hide you can? Ball pythons need to be kept at least 90ish temps on the hot side and they need places to hide point blank.I am not being rude to you here ,just mad at whomever told you this crap:mad:

If you read in her other threads, she's planning on getting another snake this weekend at a reptile expo. I just politely advised her not to until she has this one set up properly.
