Re: Where Did You Buy Your Breeding Rats?
When I started my rat colony, I went to Pet shops that were all in different towns. I figured that most of them would get their stock from different bloodlines. I also looked for the "pet" rats, not the feeders.

After the original colony was breeding, I started holding back my favorite colors and the larger babies. I now have a thriving rat breeding set-up!!

    Good Luck!

Also has anyone bought live rats and mice on-line? Just wondering if there were any good places....I havent found any stores in our area that have nice pet rats...not to many with nice feeders come to think of it.

I guess I'm kind of the odd man out?!?! Some of mine have come from pet stores' pet stock, some from reptile stores' feeder stock, and many I've actually adopted at my local Petco! I adopted a group of 6 females about a month ago. Three litters hatched out yesterday from them! I haven't checked, but I should have a 4th today. I bought one from the same Petco about a week ago that was pregnant. She had her litter 2 days later. Bought a pregnant female from a different store, and she had her litter the next day. I have the coolest female that I bought a couple weeks ago! I'm not sure if she would be considered hooded or husky, leans more towards husky. She's kind of a grayish-brown (like a poor example of an axanthic bp ;) ), and she has a white blaze. Wierd part though, is that the blaze is a very thin line that runs DIAGONALLY across her face! Very cool looking rat! And I didn't even pick her out, she was a feeder!
