About 70% of the stores that supply reptiles don't know squat about them, it's important as the potential owner to know how to check for a healthy snake. It'd help too if you knew the laws about how far pet stores have to sink before anyone can do anything.

We have a pet store here that is so nasty its discusting:mad: .I have made numerous complaints about them and nothing ever gets done. When it comes to reptiles no one gives a hoot what happens to them(minus people like us).The owner tells his employees they had better not feed the reptiles as he does not want to lose any money on them  .The same goes for his birds,he had a $2000 price on a young bird that was half starved. The bird was so weak it could not hold its head up at all.He feeds them once a week and thats it.This is why i have not stepped a foot in there door for over a year now.

Who did you complain to? Complains to the manager of a store like that wouldn't effect any change, I'm sure. I would hope complaints to local authorities would be more effective, but not all cities have an aggressive anti-cruelty stance. If going to the local authorities didn't solve anything, I'd be heading for the media and seeing if you can find some journalists that would harrass the store until things are made right.

I've heard of cases before where extremists have graffitied on the stores stuff like "blood for money" or "murderers". Sometimes I think it's not that bad an idea, it's noble compared to some of the **** they manage to get away with.

I know of a petstore which is a horrible cruel place , i know someone who used to work there who left as she couldnt handle what was (is) going on up there and she had some horrible stories to tell :( first off the owner smokes all day long underneath the parrot cages , she has a blue and gold macaw up there in a ridiculously small crappy cage, covered in bird crap :( also she has a bald sulpher crested cockatoo which is in a ancient rusty cage also covered in crap with no toys whats so ever :( actually she hasnt got any toys in with any of her parrots :(
Once the owner was clipping a cockatiels claws the bird managed to turn around and bite her hard, so guess what that evil :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: of a owner did....she put the cockatiel in a plastic bag tided it up and threw it in the freezer :O:mad::mad::mad::mad::cens0r::cens0r: i mean wtf is the matter with people :angered::angered: that why the girl i know who worked there left , now im a bloke and i was nearly in tears when i heard that , suffice to say i went up there and all hell broke loose , i also reported her to the r.s.p.c.a but nothing happened as usual (personally im not a fan of the r.s.p.c.a...never have been) she is still there working without a care in the world it make me so angry :cens0r::cens0r:

My 2 local PetCos are amazing with all of their animals. They have actual snake owners who do know a lot about all of the reptiles. I am not just saying that because they are snake owners themselves, that they are knowledgeable, but I do "quiz" them indirectly and they do know reptiles. I am glad that I haven't walked into any PetCos that were cruel or ignorant. I have been to a lot of PetCo locations all over Central NJ and have yet to find something questionable.

I made several complaints in detail to the Dept of Agriculture, they are the ones who inspect pet stores here and give out the license.Everytime the inspector would go in their after my complaints nothing ever happened and inturn nothing changed at the store. What makes this even more ignorant is when i had a reptile rescue guess who inspected me.The same guy that inspects the pet stores!! He could not find anything wrong with my enclosures that i was going to use for rescued reptiles. So he complained that i had three wood chips on my floor,he said it was cluttered on the report  .He never knew my name from making those reports so i could not accuse him of anything. The whole kicker of the inspection was he asked me what types of snakes i kept for my personal collection.Ok i love showing my snakes to people so i started to open one of my corn snakes enclosures to show her to him. When all of a sudden he starts freaking out and yelling NOOOO dont take it out  .Now this cracked me up :P .He was hard on me because he stated he did not think i should rescue reptiles ever. When my license expired they called me to ask why i never renewed my license.I told them the truth that i did not like how the inspector treated me and i told his boss everything in detail.Nothing ever happened to him and that is just sad. That is why this pet store is still trashy.

There was really know need to take it out of the employee, she wasnt the one that gave your snake mites...PetCo itself did. Contact the big CEOs and give them a peice of your mind. Im really sorry about your problem! Provent-a-mite is the best.

So i cleaned his habitat every night... i did everything they told me 2... of course a month and a half later im still stuck with mites.... i brought him in to petco this after noon.... the women told me that she could not do anything with the snake because the snake wasnt under there warranty anymore... then i told her off.... i told her that this was there problem in the first place and that i have been paying money out of my wallet to fix it. I yelled at her told her that she needed to do somthing about it and that she is not doing her job of pleasing her consumer and all this stuff... uhh omg i just went off on her and now i feel kinda bad for yelling but thats what petco gets for selling sick animals

The last time I heard yelling got your way was never. You have to have patience and calm. Keep pushing her though. But mite treatment is usually 100% successful if you do it right. Eliminate all bedding and hides and waterdish (or disinfect water dish and hides and plants and whatever else, but dump out the bedding) Scrub the tank with disinfectints and let dry for 48 hours, also you need to wash the snake and make sure NO MITES are on the snake.

I just went to a petco the other day and they were selling toads, no worries about that, i was looking at them and the card to see what species and it said Bufo ssp. which shocked me that they would just sell whatever it is they had and not even be able to tell the people what species. As well as this store had red eared sliders housed with russian tortises!!! there was a shallow pan of water that wouldn't even cover the RES shell. I just shook my head and said to myself "Hey its where the pets go" and walked out.
