Are you looking for a snake that reaches no longer than 5-6' necessarily or what are your 'requirements' for a snake. Colubrid or boid?
As for size... just as long as it can't eat my cat and my cat can't eat it. I don't have much requirements other than that. Like i said I have the time and the money, i was considering getting a Cali King but the one I take care of is a little snippy, and I'm trying to avoid that. My dad knows alot about snakes as far as owning them and has taking a liking to the ball breed and suggested i look into them.

My two cents:
Read everything you can so you know what to look for, then shop the classifieds or craigslist. When you find a likely prospect, check for mites, get a feel for how well it's been kept, does it mind being handled and will it eat. The market for normal BP's and other snakes is a buyer's one, at least ihere in central Illinois. I paid an adoption fee of $25 for mine--the owner told me he would have given it to me for free--and had the opportunity to visit it twice over a period of two weeks before commiting. I was one of the few, if any, who responded to the classified ad in the local newspaper. Ended up with a sweet six-year-old snake with a fine tempermant that doesn't mind being handled and I knew would eat. Used the money I saved on first-class proportional thermostat.
