    Usually allergies to rats stem from their nails which lead to small scratches usually if the nails are trimmed, and then since rats step in wee alot, as they can't help it, the wee gets into the wound and sometimes causes an allergic reaction. If I hold some of my big boys, The scratches get redder and itch a bit until I wash off, but the girls I don't have a problem with.

    Just try some regular haired rats, and if they give you issues, take some chlorpheniramine maleate(ChlorTabs, etc) or Benadryl, and that will take care of it. Wearing gloves such as exam latex gloves or dishwashing gloves would help too.

    You need to do what is right for the animals, even if the woman you talked about breeds hairless(probably hairless carriers) all the time. Do you know for a fact that hers don't have problems? Have you watched them through a pregnancy, birthing and rearing?

    I've known her for 5 years and I've seen quite a few litters grow up. I guess time will tell with the litter i just found today!!
