I know that mites are diffrent then fleas and ticks...I've only ever worked at vet. offices. But we never treated reptiles, so I was unfamilier with there look and type.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Re: NOT a good day... mites.
Jen, keep in mind that if your buying live rodents from a pet shop, you will more than likely bring in mites that way.
provent a mite is the only product to use. :)

eclark: thank you for that, I knew that was one of the ways your snake could get mites, I figured in a healthy captive environment this might be the ONLY way....I could be wrong.

I am so sick of this crapola. I was using the Reptile Relief, as it was the only thing at my friend's store a few months back.Well, I am buying Prevent-a-Mite online somewhere as soon as I post this.. just a vent. I am so sick of this.. but I am getting this treated ASAP. I did what I could for now; stripped down the cages, used paper towels as substrate (I was doing that anyway.) Any other tips? I was thinking of soaking everyone, but should I just wait until I get the PAM so I can do it right?
:rage: :stupidme: :dead: :frustrate :sniff: :tears: :worry: :heartbrea :stab: :eyepoppin
I treated Sarah with Reptile Relief before I brought her into the home, because I had seen mites at this particular pet store - so I thought I wasn't taking any chances. Everything was fine and good and about five weeks later - she was soaking and there were about five mites in her water.
I bought my PAM from http://www.entirelypets.com and it was here in two days (I can't imagine having to wait a week and a half - I'd have been a basket case by then! LOL). I simply re-treated her with Reptile Relief in the interim and when the PAM arrived completely cleaned her enclosure and treated it with PAM, let it dry and then popped her back in. As a precaution, since I didn't know if I had carried mites in with me (most likely) I went ahead and treated everyone's enclosures with PAM as well. I've not had any mites since.
I even took my PAM with me to Daytona and pre-treated the small tub enclosures I brought with me for any new additions! Yah PAM!!!!!
Re: NOT a good day... mites.
Cool; I can't wait to get this stuff. The RR did provide temp. relief, but since they've returned.. and I did treat all the snakes and cages; I even soaked their hidespots in bleach/boiling-temperature water!
AudOne: I didn't ectually see a mite on the snake at first. It was on Apache's hidespot;two actually. They kind of look like moving poppy seeds; black. I saw a few more on Apache too.. saw nothing at all in the BPs' cages but I will be treating everyone. Apache was in for a nice soaking; something he hates!

Oh okay, I've never seen anything in there tank or on them, so I was just curious as to what they looked like etc. so I know EXACTLY what I am looking for. Thank you so much, I think PAM is going to see a jump in there sales because I to and buying a can for good measure.

It's actually called Provent-A-Mite.
Re: NOT a good day... mites.
As I posted that I realized I had typed it lol. I think I edited it as you posted your message.
Re: NOT a good day... mites.
In my opinion, RR isn't worth the money. Spend a little more and go with PAM to get desired results. After going through over a gallon of RR, I'll never go that route again.

How many snakes do you have that you shampooed a gallons worth?
