Where's Becky when we need her :)
I know of Crypto as the cause of blindness in horses; never heard of it affecting snakes.

Crypto is nothing to mess around with. Im not trying to scare anyone, cause crypto isnt that common , but crypto can whipe out collections. But with the right cleaning and freezing and handwashing you can stop it from spreading. Watch out for WC animals . They are the biggest problems.....Seeing that the amel corn kilo has, it is C/B. I dought it has it. Keep a close eye on it. I think it will be JUST FINE! Has it pooped yet? Poopings a good sign!! So is feeding. :)

    Justin,

Please stop worrying people and then making claims that just aren't true. This is how IBD has been so hyped up that every time someone's snake cranes its neck, its instantly "stargazing" and going to die. The fact is, Crypto is very dangerous (there is no medication proven to treat it at this time although some promising work has been done with Hyperimmune Bovine Colostrum). There are tests that can be done however the most accurate one (a biopsy of the stomach lining) is the most invasive and even that one can yield a false negative like a gastric lavage or fecal test can. Additionally, many of the symptoms can mirror that of less dangerous parasitic infections like those commonly found in snakes. Anyone who feels their snake may have something wrong should visit a qualified herp vet. The vet will start with the basics and if the situation doesn't improve will take the proper steps. Lets all be very cautious about suggesting that diseases which may either be life threatening or could infect someone's entire collection may be at play.

Justin, please understand that i did not say not to mention it(crypto),its just the way your first post was wrote. You sent Kilo into a total freakout mood. All i was trying to get thru to you was that since you were not 100% sure thats what killed your corn. That telling kilo that his snake might have it was unneeded.Look at it this way if you will, say jacksprat dies of the cooties(yea i know lol) from holding his wifes hand to much.Well i hear you mention that you hold your moms hand when you cross the streets.Well i tell you Justin you are going to die from cooties because you hold your moms hand.Of course you freakout. Then someone else mentions that jacksprats wife was a dirty women and thats how she got the coooties that killed jack.Well your mom is not a dirty person at all so she can not have the cooties. The moral here is i made you freakout about something you never had the chance of getting:P .Its ok to mention certain things (IBD or CRYPTO) and there signs but its best done on a informational level, not to scare someone.I hope you understand my reasons now :D .

Most everything in your post was false.

    1. Just because it eats, it doesn't mean the snake is fine. Many snakes will eat and regurge and some will become anorexic and not eat at all.

    2. WC animals are generally loaded with parasites, but not necessarily Crypto. There are many different kinds of parasites, most treatable.

    3. You said just because it is captive bred, you doubt it has Crypto. A CB animal kept in a collection with poor quarantine methods can have just as good of a chance to contract Crypto as well as any other illness. You don't know where that CB animal came from.

    4. You said pooping is a good sign. How so? Snakes with Crypto will defecate and possibly regularly.

I am just cautioning you to be very careful what you say because you can upset somebody and have them worrying needlessly.
