Then you also aren't increasing the need for imports by buying from a pet shop that will order you a large animal.

Some rescues make you sign a no breeding contract from what i have been told.I have contacted several and because i am in a differant state they tell me no:( .I guess they would prefere them to live a life alone then get a good home  .

seriously, you can find girls that are big enough to breed. laying fertile eggs is a gamble, no guarantees ever. this time of year they will cost some $$ probably 400 and up!

to me it is a gamble to buy a girl and breed her right away and get good results. if you are going to gamble, your best bet is to get 3 or 4 girls and roll the dice:snake2:

I really would suggest buying an '05 female from a reputable breeder. You might have to spend a little more $ for shipping, but no good breeder will put their rep on the line by selling a male as a female. It may take a few years to grow her up to breeding size, but it's worth it in my opinion.

Very random thought, but try checking with some reptile stores in your area about the possibility of putting up a "wanted" flyer. Now before I get flamed for saying that....I agree that paying a bit more for a proven female from a reputable breeder is definitely the best scenario...

But, if that is simply not in your budget, there are people out there that get themselves a snake on a whim, and soon realize that they want to get rid of it. A well placed flyer in a store where those folks come to buy feeders could pay off. Check out the "Our family has doubled" post I put up in the general forum...I realize that "lucking" into 2 people that have grown female BPs in the course of 2 weeks is rare...but they are out there. If you can find one...and get their snake to your trusted vet for a once over to make sure she is OK...you could come out ahead. We picked up a 1,000 gram (roughly) male, a 1,500 gram female and a 40 gallon breeder tank for $150, just by bumping into a couple guys that fell into that "thought it would be cool to have a snake but what do I do now" category...

Either way...best of luck in your female hunt!!

After checking out your profile, I see that you are 14 years old. and I would love to help out a young herper get started. what I can do for you is look throught my hold back females and pick out a real pretty female. she would be in the 300-400 gram range. it will cost you $65.00 for the ball python and I would be happy to pay for the shipping. talk with your parents and let me know.
