I never get complacent around horses. I always keep my awareness up, don't get careless, etc. I know that they will take advantage of situations, even the best trained one!

beautiful animals but they can inflict serious injuries...ive broken my back, a few ribs, shoulders, an arm, legs, black eyes, everything lol but i still love the horses whos done it lol...as for weaning we used to wean forcfully but we found the stress put on foal and mare was too great...now bare in mind we are not big breeders here we have a training yard for problem horses breeding is just a side line with a few select mares that we own so we can afford not to force the weaning..ive found that when the foal is weaned naturally it is better for both mare and foal as they would do in the wild they turn out the same as other foals but i find a little bit calmer..tho that could just be because of their handling and the mares skills to nuture them

I agree, being bit by a horse is much worse than a BP. I was bit on the back of my arm by a gelding, and even though i was wearing a heavy sweater and a coat, he still left a big bite mark and a big bruise.
I dont know much about weaning, I've only had geldings. It sounds like you are doing a good job though.
