When we bred rabbits it was a twice a day job cleaning up the crap.Like i said food goes in one end and something comes out the other end constantly:P .Yes you can keep them outside but then you have frozen water to deal with during the cold months. Then you have wild kritters trying to get to your rabbits to eat them. How cold does it get in Turkey where you live?

Rabbits take up a lot more space for breeding purposes than wee little hamsters. But I'm with you...I'd much rather enjoy cute little breeder bunnies than mess wtih stinky ol' hamsters. The only drawback that comes to mind (if your snake would switch and you're willing to go to all that effort to breed rabbits) is a nutritional issue of feeding exclusively newborn prey. And I'm not at all certain its a real issue. But I've heard that pinks and fuzzies are not as "complete" as adult prey items because their bones have not fully calcified and they are way more fatty tissue than muscle. I just don't know how valid a concern that really is.

You know i never though about the bones not being fully developed for the calcium:oops: .I have only ever fed 5lb rabbits to a burmese python we had sometime back.

I actually see the non-hardened bones as a good thing ... not as many calories expended to digest the prey.

Joe ... check out Shnaks location ... what works for people in the US is not always a viable option for people in other countries.

Shnak ... the best food item for your snake is something that you can feed regularly.

Your snake may not even take rabbits ... as mentioned above ball pythons in particular tend to be imprint feeders ... you can try scenting the rabbits with the hamster ... but it may not work. You should get a few pinkies to try with before going through the expense of setting up your own animals.

One thing to watch out for with captive rabbits is "wild" cats and dogs. Dogs are known to rip into rabbit cages to kill them, and cats are known to eat the feet off the babies through the wire caging. One local rabbitry lost around 160 rabbits last month to cats.

Rabbit pinks dont have alot of hair ... this will make a real messy smear to clean up (hair helps to hold together the poop). I've also read that snakes need the stomach content of herbivores to keep them healthy. Depending on the breed of rabbit this may or may not happen (New Zealands have pinks that are close to a medium rabbit, where as dwarvees are smaller and may be able to eat some greens before being fed).

Man, whatever happened to good old basic grammar. I gave up bolding and underlining (and reading this thread). :sigh2: Sorry, but I'm anal when it comes to spelling and punctuation and this is all you ever see on the internet anymore. I'll get off my :soapbx: now.

Hey Joe, I got a really good book called Stories Rabbits Tell, and in one chapter a guy did a survey/experiment of how many poops per day the average rabbit makes.......360!!
