Here's a link I had in my favorites list. Hopefully it will be of some help. I can't verify if these instructions are good as I've not tried them out yet but take it for what it is. Cue and some others here have made really nice incubators out of old fridges/freezers so they would likely be able to say if these instructions are reasonable to follow.

That is the link I was looking for but couldnt find! That'll do the job!

When you consider the cost of the following incubator I think you got a really good deal if you can rehab that $60.00 unit into a workable incubator. I've seen Casey's incubators btw and believe me they are fantastic...wish I could afford one myself for this coming season...very well constructed! Joanna you are the BEST EVER!!! :sweeet:
I would like to say thank you for the great links. :D
The thing is I can buy one of the commercial incubators. In reality money is not an issue at all, neither is time. I am planning all this for next breeding season. I will have about three clutches of different BP morphs next year to tend to. I don't want to chance losing the clutches but I have faith in myself as a Do-it-yourselfer. I just want to play a role in the building of the incubator solely for learning purposes. I am going to order a Helix thermostat soon and will have the heat tape made at the October Hamburg, PA show. I already stopped at my local radio shack for a computer fan to hard wire in. I will have the unit built and running MANY months before I really need it.
If and when it is time for the clutches and it does not work out I will buy a commercial incubator. My heart is way bigger than my ego!! I am NOT going to risk my babies for sake of saving "face" with my big bad homemade incubator. Eventually everything will workout, it always does. I hope I am stating this clear enough.
Thanks again for all the information. I love you guys and the knowledge you share with the rest of the community. Good luck everyone with their home made projects in the future.

Unfortunately not. I had to take the season off completely to move. This one will be fun though! I can't believe it is already Labor Day!! We'll get the Bisquick going soon enough!

Re: Incubator out of a mini Fridge?????
Danny,
Here is a picture of the home made fridge incubator that I built for this last seasons clutches. I think it came out great. It is a little biger that the one you are attempting, but if you have any questions let ma know, as it is the same principles as yours. I had 11 clutches in there this year, but I feel that I can fit about twenty in there at one time if I have to. Let me know if you have any questions. I need to get some better pics, but if you want to see anything specific, let me know, and I'll try to get the pics for you.

Re: Incubator out of a mini Fridge?????
Tim I am impressed that is a full size double door soda machine. Ha ha.
Your my idol. I thought I was cool turning a wine refrigerator into an incubator, but you all out when industrial strength on us. Cool incubator I love it man.
Thank you for the information and I will definitely be in touch in a couple weeks when I am building this puppy.
P.S. Did you build it totally by yourself, I mean wiring/heating?
What kind of heating does it have? Ventilation/air circulation?
Thanks again,
-Danny
Re: Incubator out of a mini Fridge?????
Danny,
I did build it all by myself. It has 4 feet of 11" flexwatt down each side wall. It is powered by a Helix 1500 watt system, and the air is circulated by two 4" radio shack fans. It did a pretty good job this year. The only complaint that I have, is that I need to reposition the fans for better air movement. There was about a 2-3 degree variance in temperature from the top to bottom. In a couple of months, I am going to try to move the fans and see if I can't get the variance to be in the neighborhood of 1 degree top to bottom.
Thanks for the compliments,
Re: Incubator out of a mini Fridge?????
That is cool that you hooked it all up yourself. It gives you a sense of accomplishment correct? I would feel great if I built a megatron incubator.
The fan ideas sounds good because you stated there was a 2-3 degree difference wow. Isn't that cutting it close if they go too high?
It is so well worth the $60.oo for the unit, because if all doesn't work out I have a nice wine cooler to keep in the spare closet. I guess I would have to start drinking then. LOL well anyway.
Thanks again for your responses.
