Actually there is someone who has been attempting the burm x ball cross for some time now. Even took pics of them mating. So far no eggs but you never know.


ball x angolan, ball x blood, ball x woma, burm x retic, carpet x GTP, gaboon x rhino......there are all kinds of crosses out there.

I don't think anything is impossible anymore except for egg laying x live bearing crosses.

I am just toying with the idea right now. My wife seems to think that this pairing would result in one very large snake (ie: one eating the other:D ).

I'm curious were you successful with the breeding project. I would love to see a picture of a hybrid (children's balls). I have a large female children's pythons and a small male bp so I'm debating on trying to breed them.

Yes, the North American rat snakes were separated from the Elaphe, and assigned to Pantherophis.
The corn/king hybrids are indeed across Genus boundaries, as kingsnakes are in Lampropeltis. It was quite a surprise. Reptiles don't seem to care as much about our taxonomic classifications as we do. ;)

So, intergeneric hybrids don't appear to be very far-fetched at all, in snakes.

However, from what I've read, someone has attempted to cross a spotted python with a ball python, and got locks, but there's nothing reported anywhere on any babies produced, yet. So, that's discouraging for the success of a Children's X Ball cross. Antaresia might not be compatible with Python.
