We own a property management firm (we work for the investors/owners who own the rental houses.) "Property Management Services, LLC, to be exact, if you are a landlord looking for management in Buffal. :) I can honestly say, the reason that rents are pretty high, is that we need to offset the costs from when people stiff us on rent and skip town. We just painted a house today in which someone's kid wrote all over the house walls with red crayon, pink nail polish, and left potato chip crumbs in all of the window sills! And since this is a family forum, I will not go into what they did in/to the attic... wow.. and there is one house we haven't even tackled yet; in one of the rough parts of Buffalo, it is full of castoff junk the people left, not to mention cockroach city! This should be a fun cleanout...
I also live on the other side of the rental coin; we rent our house. We have a nice landlord who only charges 500 per month; was 450 but we started paying more when we got the horses here.

Now I really know why I like these small towns....High rent around here is $350.00....and this is for 3 and 4 bedroom houses with 2 baths and 3 or 4 lots.... I am purchasing my place and only pay $196.00 a month. Of course the cost of living is much lower here.

    And gas is $2.85

this is starting to make me sick... my house right now is a small 4 bedroom 2 bath with a tiny backyard and a 2 car garage and we pay about 2000 a month but we seriously have the best rent in town. the other places we looked at were 2000-2300 for a 3 bedroom 1 bath without a garage. a buddy of mine just rented out a 1 room studio for 1000 a month... this is depressing. there are reasons why im fleeing california in 8 months. if any of you are into the printing or marketing fields let me know!:tricho:

Wow some areas rental rates just blow me away! I can't imagine how you all pay what you do. In Toledo rents seem very reasonable, even compared to northern MI where we recently moved from. Average here (unless you want the very ritzy part of Toledo) is $500 to $800 for a nice 3 bedroom house or duplex. You do have to watch some areas of the city crime wise but all in all the rents are very reasonable here.

Wow. Prices are pretty outrageous here in VA. I found this on our local papers site.

    Current Price Ranges:
    4,967 Homes for Sale
    Average Sales Price: $438,903 :O
    458 Rental Properties
    Average Rental Price: $3,016 :O

Those rental prices are for homes though. I think apartments may run from $700 and up!! I know when I was looking (3yrs ago) it was wiser for me to buy then rent.

I remember living in Fairfax - it was nuts back then. There is no way I could afford to go back and live there now!

I'm moving in with Ironhead. Cost of living is outstanding, he has nice snakies and makes killer hotsauce!

We pay $1200ish for poopy 2bedroom 2 level apartment with attached garage - cheapest in the area. It's gone up over $300 in the past 4 years...

We buy gas at Sams, which usually saves us 5-10 cents a gallon...but still, in the neighborhood of 3.20 for the truck (reg unleaded) and 3.50 for the Z (prem. unleaded).

New York prices are rediculous. Here on long island you can't find a studio for less 850. 1 bedroom apartment 1000-1200 range. 1 floor of a 2 floor house 1700.
