Well, the age isn't a problem except for the fact people might not want to hire a 14 year old. In Maryland we have to be 14 with a permit, and have to be home by 8pm.

I would go for Petsmart because, since you're on these forums, you like animals/reptiles and would probably be happier working there. Plus, the discounts and if any "can't pass it up" BP's come in, you could get first dib's.

    Hey BP Kid,

My vote is PetSmart. Just from the short time I have seen you on here you seem know quiet a bit about reptiles and such. Do something you are going to be happy doing.... it makes it much easier. Just whatever you decide, give it your best while you are there. I am a manager in a large company and that is one thing we are constantly looking for are people that step up and take ownership of a situation. It'll get you noticed... not only in your first job but down the road as well.

    Peace!

BTW... series is looking pretty good from my viewpoint! :) :neener:

I friend of mine worked for Petsmart when he was 15, hated it, and left because all he did was stock the shelves with 50 lb. bags of dog food. At 15, I don't know how much of the "cool stuff" they'll actually let you do right away.

My experience in herp retail is that the retail setting is not a place for the passionate hobbyist. Just my .02

    ....tough one.

I worked at a Christmas tree farm for my first job(outside of family owned businesses)......there is nothing like driving a big tractor cutting grass in between rows of Christmas trees all day long....you sure do get to deal with any problems you have going on ;)......ha...until you look behind you and realize you just plowed over a few trees because you weren't paying attention :devilish:

i'd say manual labor, you're young and with most manual labor jobs they will be able to give you a solid schedule. if you go to blockbuster or taco bell or petco they won't be able to give you a steady schedule. be a kid as long as you can. i'd say check at local warehouses or possibly at a lumber yard, something like that?

Restuarants work too.....I bussed tables as my first job and for a 15 y/o its good money with very little pressure and responsibility. Just make sure you get the server's tables flipped fast and they'll take care of you tip-wise....

I'm pretty sure that's illegal here for anyone under 16 :(

Personally, I would try finding some sort of secretarial, clerical, answering phones sort of thing. I started answering phones for a tractor company when I was 12, only on weekends, but, hey, twenty-five bucks a week is a lot when you're 12 ;) I worked there until my second year of high school, and then got another job as a secretary, answering phones, scheduling appointments, that sort of thing (in fact, I still do that at OSU, lol). The work's easy, the money wasn't bad, and it was pretty flexible. I don't know... are there any offices near you that need someone to answer phones? Or businesses, or tanning salons? :P

Of course, I started mowing when I was ten for money, too, and cleaning out drive-ways during the winter... there's something to that.
