no lights for the snakes at night. For me, I use a lamp, or if the power goes out, a flashlight..:P

I usually feed at night. It seems to me that it's when they start becoming active, so it's a good time.. but it's all in your own personal preference. Before the "night rush" when everyone slithers out and explores, that's when I feed.

what i do is place the rat in a bag or box and put it infron of the rack so they can catch the scent. after 5 minutes they're already out hunting for it.

Ok, here's the thing with lights and drying effects as I have learned it:

Yes, hot lamps can and will suck the humidity right out of an enclosure. And CHE's are much worse than bulbs, BTW. Most people choose not to use lighting at all because BPs don't need them. This is true...but we people kind of like using them to see the snake cruise at night, or to keep ambient temps up. You can do this, and not suck out too much humidity, by simply raising the lamps above the top of the enclosure 8-12" (higher if you need less heat and just want lighting). This still allows those of us who can't keep our homes (or even the room) at 78 or higher to have the ambient temps around 78-80, and it gives the enclosure a nice look. Just make sure you have any lights on timers to keep the 12/12 cycle.

Using lights is fine, as long as they are above the enclosure and not using higher than 50watt bulbs. I use 40watt for heat needs and 25 for simple lighting. And I use moonlight bulbs at night, since the red seem a bit harsh (and my BF thinks they're evil :))

I have a day lamp and a night lamp, on a 12/12 cycle. The day lamp really helps keep the ambient temps up, and the aquarium is in a dimly lit room so it is also good for display purposes. The night lamp (black light/moonlight) is really nice to have though. About 15 minutes after I turn on the night lamp my BP (Slyder) is out and about. It is awesome to be able to see him move around at night with the black light.

My one infrared lamp goes off at 9pm and I usually feed shortly before that.
