I was doing my nightly ritual of checking on everyone and for some reason decided to pull Dandylion's tub out to make sure she was a ok. I didn't have the tub pulled out more than 6" when she comes flying out and tags me. :O
I have a couple that will do that. It is just a feeding response, it is the time of year my snakes are always hungry. The ones that do that with me come out of the tub and look for the first "warm" thing to eat. My het pied girl is just over 2000 grams and I have to pull her drawer out about an inch or two to make sure she won't fly out. I have to use a little hook to nudge her back so I can put her food in. LOL!!! She is at the front of the tub looking for food everyday lately, like 2 small rats a week isn't enough.

She was only about 80 grams, but that was the most pain I have ever flet from one of my snakes. I do agree with you that getting bit is more startling than painful.
The largest snake I've been struck at and tagged by was an adult Central American Boa, and it bled a lot more than it hurt.
The most painful bite I've ever endured was from a little bitty baby albino Burm. It latched on to my pinky knuckle and proceeded to wrap around my wrist. It was very painful... by the time we got it off I had a nice bruise that lasted about a week. :upset:

Re: Virgin no longer
Well, congratulations, but that bite was nothin! She didn't even get all of her teeth in!

Re: Virgin no longer
Thanks everybody!! See... I knew you guys would understand :grouphug:
Bill I did wonder if it was a feeding response, and the odd thing is I had fed her an extra weanling the day before. So she got her small + the wean. I will definitely be more careful opening her tub. ;) Greedy thing!!!
Jo, I didn't pull back at all! Of course I was bitten and she was back in the tub before I realized I had been bit. lol. I look down and was like ... "Why you little :cens0r: !" Shoot it barely hurt, a teensy bit of throbbing for 5 minutes. The top part of my hand feels a bit bruised today but I'd take that bite over a hamster bite anyday!!! :D

Re: Virgin no longer
Christie have you put her with any males? I have seen gravid females strike first and ask questions later.

Re: Virgin no longer
Heck yes! Both Mike and I have been bitten recently by one of our female rats who has a litter of pinks (she's very protective). That's way worse and tends to get infected if you aren't careful. Much nicer to be bit by a BP I think LOL.

Bad Brad. :colbert: You're supposed to commend me on surviving that horrific bite. ;) I know's it's not that bad, but dang it just humor me. :giggle: If I wasn't bleeding, I would have been hard pressed to say I was even bit. :D

Re: Virgin no longer
Well she not Gravid maybe she is just being a female. LOL. If she was by the front of the tub you might have triggered the "OMG, A Huge Freaking Predator" responce.
