baytril seems to be the in med for the last few years because it can and does treat nigh on all infections it counters. It is one of the best broad spectrum antibiotics out there. But as I said before it should really be a last resort. Your vet sounds fine and is probably just following the "party line". Talk to your vet ask them about the bloodwork and swab cultures to ascertain what the problem is first and then if caught early enough use a more specific antibiotic.

Think of it in this analagy, say u want to do a precision kill, the right way is to get information and send in a sniper for a clean shot, baytril is the 1000lb smart bomb that takes the target and a surrounding block radius!

    hope that makes sense!

work with your vet if u have never had a problem speak to em, find out the costs re blood work and cultures time span etc. If u took in a rescue that was a mess and had very little chance baytril can turn em around. I have 2 vials of oral baytril in my herp med cabinet here! I think the stuff is superb if used in the right context, it just over here as well seems to be the in product!

I am lucky my vet listens to me and I ask for this and that and he gets it in for me to treat at home! I do a lot of rescue work and many of u remember phoenix, the first thing the vet said when I said what the snakes problem was did I want baytril I said HELL NO! lol

look u are a star Cass your snake is in amazing hands, amd thank god for sites like this where u can come on here say your piece and get conflicting advice to a vet from someone like me who you dont know, and it gets our lil brains tickin'. Keep up the good work!

If ya ever need a shout or a moan PM me hun I am always on here it seems LOL
