Yes I do try and make sure my hand's don't smell like rodent that's very important. Also JLC is right if it was so confusing for them then they'd get you when you are taking them out to feed.

I feed in my tank but thats cause mine are so laid back. If you handle your snake everyday or even everyother day then the imprint of you opening the cage and handleing them over powers the one of them getting food. But it depends on the snake

I also feed in the tank and feed live to boot.
Sometimes when it's close to feed day and I open the cage Ozzy will come out in the "feed position" until he realizes it's just me and no food then he settles down. It's got to be all about the smell and not about the opening of the cage IMO

i never tried it in the tank, its just that when i bought it, the pet store told me that its better to feed the snake outside of the tank just b/c then they associate eating w/ outside of the tank and they wont ever bite u when u put ur hand in the tank...it sounds smart...
It sounds smart if you don't know anything about simple logic. Here goes my statement I've made over and over and over and over and over and over again in thread after thread after thread like this:

If you make an arguement that feeding a snake inside of its own cage will cause the snake to associate a keeper entering the cage each and every time with feeding, then you can also make and arguement with equal weight that if you remove a snake from its cage to feed it, it will expect to be fed each and every time you remove it from the cage, including for handling sessions.

Alright so theres the 12th grade reading level response...here's the 6th grade response: It doesn't matter if you feed inside or outside. Whatever works for you and your snake.

I've been to that store recently, and I was unimpressed with their bp care. They had one gorgeous girl, in very cold conditions, because she likes it that way! :fishslap: One hide and one HUGE water dish. Well of course she's going to prefer one side, the other side is aquatic!! Anyway, he tried impressing me with his bp knowledge but didn't manage to succeed. I've also been in that store and seen animals that have had no water AT ALL!

As for the feeding issue, I agree with whatever works best for you and your snake. Bps are more shy, and so usually feeding in the enclosure will work best. I started out feeding in a separate enclosure with little success. I have much better feeding responses now.
