I saw it... hate to say it, but the movie was a waste of money to see if you pay/paid IMO... I saw it for nothing..... Thankfully...
It was so cheesy and stupid, the snakes were not even that realistic and the way they portrayed the snakes is even worse for thier already cruddy image... I think the time and money spent producing this garbage could have been better spent producing something else..... heck, even a kids cartoon would be better than that movie.

Re: Rediculus movie
I'm looking forward to the movie. Of course its going to be stupid, heck most movies these days are, but i bet it'll be a fun kind of stupid. And in the movie they explain that snakes aren't normally that aggressive-The gangsters who put them on the plane drugged them. It's brilliant!(kidding) still i think it'll be fun.

Re: Rediculus movie
The movie's just a joke, I doubt this will harm the image of snakes. I'm pretty sure the reputations of snakes are pretty safe with this movie because it's just a big thriller genre parody. It looks silly, though, so I'm gonna go watch it.
A movie you need to watch out for is Boa vs. Python. It features such sweeping cinematic story arcs as an 80 foot python being imported to the US and escaping and being hunted by special forces... with an 80 foot boa.
A lot of movies that prominently feature snakes are just too silly to harm their image. I'd say more serious films that only misrepresent snakes for a short time are more harmful to the image.

Hey, didn't anyone inform them on the risks of IBD when combining pythons and boas? Yoinks! ;)

Re: Rediculus movie
But there are shows on TV that actually portray snakes positively, warning you of potential threats and why some can get so nasty (defensive, not aggressive).

Re: Rediculus movie
I'm way excited about this movie. Like, to a fault. I have three t-shirts (I'm wearing one right now). I really commend them for giving a reason for the snakes' aggression, even though it's probably a bit iffy scientifically. And no one's going to take this seriously. I think most people are intelligent enough to realize that there's a big difference between your pet corn and some 20-foot anaconda on a plane trying to take out Samuel L. Jackson. Or whatever.
I love all those people shrieking in terror over corn snakes and stuff, though. It cracks me up.

I admit I am looking forward to the movie too, not because I think it will be good or anything, I just know it will turn out to be a Cult Classic with a pretty big following some day. I wonder what they will call the sequel??? Snakes on a train? Lol.

Re: Rediculus movie
I just read a semi-interesting article on this movie in the latest Reptiles magazine. A few intersting tidbits:
In order to have a scientific reason for the snakes to attack, the snakes will supposedly be attracted to snake pheromones that are released on the plane along with the snakes. (Although I'm not sure why they couldn't have used a few mice running around the plane instead?)
They used 450 real snakes, but no more than 50 were seen at a time. They had a lot of extras due to preventing stress, feeding, etc.
Sam Jackson had in his contract that he wasn't to get closer than 20 feet to a real snake, although he did visit the snake room a couple of times.
They mostly used corn snakes, russian rat snakes, and milk snakes for the real snakes. However, they did have a real cobra, rattlesnake, and an 18-foot burm for a few real shots. They didn't mention if the hots were venomoids or not, though.
As far as my opinions on this movie... well, I do love a cheesy movie. :P However, I doubt if this will do anything positive for our hobby. It seems like I am forever running into ophidiophobes that want to kill every snake they come across, and I'm sure this movie will just add to those irrational fears.
